MIT 2.008: Design and Manufacturing II
Fall 2021
In Design and Manufacturing II, I worked on a team of 6 students to design a yo-yo. We manufactured 134 yo-yos over 3 months. This class focused on the design process and the material properties of different plastics. To create these yo-yos we injection molded and thermoformed the parts. To injection mold, we needed to first model the part of the yo-yo and create an aluminum mold using the mill. This class taught me how to use CAM and how to design parts with tolerances which accounted for the shrinkage of plastics due to cooling.
